Come join in!

The HMC is here to give everyone the chance to sing and play – regardless of age, skill level, or financial situation. Membership is PWYC (Pay What You Can) and all of our ensembles are tuition free.

  1. Give us a shout
  2. Come to a placement audition
  3. Make a contribution

Step one: Give us a shout

If you’re interested in playing or singing with us, the first thing you need to do is email From there we’ll be able to set you up with a placement audition at the beginning of the next rehearsal term (September, January, or May).

HMC programs run year-round, so it’s never too early to sign up for next term.

Step two: Come to a placement audition

Our placement auditions help us get to know you and your playing/singing so that we can help you achieve your musical goals. Don’t be nervous! The auditions are very relaxed and only about ten minutes long. To read about other HMC member’s experiences, click here.

“I had never auditioned for anything before I joined the co-op, and I was scared to death. But it wasn’t that scary, and everyone was really nice!” – Helena, Bassoon

Step three: Make a contribution

As a co-op, we’re legally required to collect a membership fee. We use a Pay What You Can term-by-term membership to make joining as accessible as possible. HMC members also sell a minimum of five tickets for each concert they perform.

After you come to your placement audition and sign up for your ensemble(s), you’ll have the opportunity to contribute whatever you can manage. No amount is too little or too much. Your desire to make music and participate in our community is the only tuition you’ll ever need.

“The biggest value of the HMC is the sheer accessibility of it. You don’t have to be an expert at the instrument, you don’t have to ace an audition. Just show up and have some fun.” – Andrew, French Horn
